Nikkei's latest twist: Yen's shadow play

The Nikkei's been doing its own little dance lately, seemingly shrugging off the weaker yen narrative that usually fuels its ascent. We're seeing some domestic strength that feels a bit more sustainable than just currency plays, which is a nice change of pace. I'm keeping an eye on how much of this is sticky, versus just a temporary blip before the rates talk in the US really ramps up again. My watchlist for Asian equities is getting tweaked to reflect companies with strong local demand rather than purely export-driven stories. It's almost as if the market's figured out that endlessly betting on a weaker yen is like waiting for a perpetually delayed train; eventually, you start looking for other routes.

It's an interesting point about domestic strength, but how much of that is truly independent of global economic sentiment? A prolonged US rates discussion could still exert considerable pressure, regardless of the yen's current role.
