Kalshi's Utility: Niche or Broader Market Indicator?

asked by u/justin_a · 10d · 1 answers

Been following the Kalshi markets more closely lately, particularly with things like $ABC hovering around 179.98. While it's interesting to see the crowd sentiment on specific event outcomes, I'm finding myself wondering if these markets are genuinely providing any novel alpha or if they're mostly just reflecting what's already priced into traditional options or futures. My gut says it's a niche play for very specific binary events, and I'm not seeing how it helps me much with broader market moves or even something like $EURUSD. Am I missing the broader utility here? Kalshi's main utility right now is as a novelty, not a serious alpha generator. The volume isn't there for meaningful price discovery that isn't already found elsewhere, and the regulatory environment is still too restrictive for broader impact.
