Is 'HODL' a strategy or just a prayer these days?
Been watching the crypto space for a while now, and it feels like the default advice for anyone not actively trading is simply to HODL. I get the long-term thesis, I really do, especially for assets with strong fundamentals. But with so much volatility and the emergence of more sophisticated financial products around crypto, sticking to a purely HODL strategy feels increasingly less like a proactive investment approach and more like a hopeful waiting game.
I'm thinking about how many missed opportunities there are to rebalance, take some profits, or even cut losses when the market dynamics clearly shift. Even in traditional markets, you wouldn't just buy something and never look at it again for years. Is the crypto market truly so unique that active management is inherently inferior to just sitting on your hands? Curious to hear some thoughts, especially from those who strongly advocate for HODLing. Push back on this, please.
