Scaling out vs. full exit when profit targets hit?

When a stock like $MSFT hits my initial profit target, I'm torn between scaling out half my position or just closing the whole thing. What factors do you all use to decide which approach is better for managing gains, especially if you think there's more upside but want to lock in some profit?
