Onboarding Friction with Asian Market Brokers

asked by u/goldbug_lena · 1d · 3 answers

Anyone else finding the KYB process increasingly arduous when trying to onboard with brokers that offer good depth in Asian markets, particularly with local equities beyond the main indices? I've been hitting a wall with excessive documentation requests and protracted verification timelines, even for accounts looking to deploy substantial capital. It's becoming a genuine impediment to diversification.

Yes, it's definitely gotten tougher. I've found some regional banks with brokerage arms are better, but even then, the paperwork is a grind. It seems like the compliance burden has just exploded.

It's not just you. The regulatory environment has tightened considerably, making it a pain, especially for non-resident accounts. Have you considered using a global custodian with direct access, even if the fees are higher?

Definitely seeing that too. It seems like the regulatory landscape in some Asian markets has tightened considerably, making it a real challenge to get set up efficiently. Have you found any specific jurisdictions or types of brokers better than others?
