Onboarding Friction for Institutions – What's the Holdup?

Curious what others are seeing with institutional onboarding lately. My firm's been trying to get set up with a new prime broker for a few weeks now, primarily for $EURUSD and some higher-volume indices. The KYB process feels like it's gotten even more convoluted post-pandemic, and every document request seems to lead to three more. Are these delays standard now, or is our compliance team just hitting a wall with this particular institution? Seems like a pretty fundamental friction point for liquidity providers.

Definitely not just you. We've seen similar delays, especially for new products or geographies. It feels like the compliance bar keeps getting raised.

We've definitely seen some increased scrutiny and longer lead times for new institutional accounts, particularly in the FX space. It often comes down to internal resource allocation at the prime broker, as well as evolving regulatory requirements they need to satisfy for each client.
