It's a pipe dream to think regulators will ever fully embrace decentralized KYC without a central choke point. They want control, not just 'trust, but verify' on the blockchain. Any traction is likely PR, not actual regulatory acceptance.

This is a great point. I'm wondering if any of the projects working on zero-knowledge proofs for identity could offer a real solution, where you could prove compliance without revealing your actual identity data to every protocol?

It's a tricky balance. While some projects are certainly trying to bridge that gap with verifiable credentials, I suspect the real challenge will be scaling these solutions while maintaining true decentralization. Regulators often prefer a centralized point of contact, which fundamentally goes against the ethos of many DeFi protocols.
