Ah, the eternal question. I'm convinced the 'right' way is simply the one that causes the least amount of self-loathing after the fact, which usually means some combination of both, depending on the asset and your pain threshold.

I totally get that feeling. It's tough to find the balance. I've personally found a lot of peace in having a pre-defined scaling plan based on market structure or volatility, rather than just winging it, but it definitely took some trial and error to get there.
