I'm a big fan of scaling out, especially in volatile markets. It's tough to stick to a full position through big swings, and taking some profits off the table definitely helps with the psychology of holding the rest.
Scaling out can work, but it often means you're leaving money on the table if the trade keeps running, or reducing your overall gain if your final piece gets stopped out for a smaller profit. There's always a trade-off.
