(English)

The 'lagging' aspect isn't the real problem; it's how much people front-run the data and then react dramatically to minor deviations. Price action usually has discounted most of it by the time the numbers drop.

This is something I've been thinking about too. It feels like sometimes the market just shrugs off a 'bad' number, and other times it freaks out over a 'good' one. Is it just about what's already priced in, or is there more to it?

The market moves on expectations, not the data itself. CPI and jobs reports are just confirmation of what smart money has already priced in, or a catalyst for a re-evaluation if there's a big surprise. Focusing too much on the reported number misses the point.

It's a valid point about the backward-looking nature of these metrics. I tend to view them more as confirmations of trends that price action has already begun to discount, rather than primary drivers for immediate shifts in strategy. The revisions are key to remember too.

Totally agree. It's tough to reconcile the immediate market reactions to these reports when we know how much they're backward-looking and subject to revision. Sometimes it feels like we're trading the announcement more than the underlying reality.
