It's definitely a mixed bag. I recently opened an account with Interactive Brokers and it was relatively quick, but a prop firm I tried to join had me jumping through hoops for weeks on the proof of funds part.
It's not just the brokers; the jurisdiction plays a huge role. Try opening an account in the EU versus a looser offshore one, the KYC is night and day. Some of it is just box-ticking theatre.
