Isn't it just a sign of market maturity? More complex instruments usually follow a growing asset class.

Good point. The leverage available in derivatives definitely adds to the speculative nature. Wonder what the spot to derivatives ratio looked like in traditional markets early on.

I think it's a bit of both. We get more eyes on the market, but also more risk of flash crashes.

I agree, the derivatives dominance is a double-edged sword. It brings liquidity but also can amplify swings.

Healthy growth needs a strong spot market. Derivatives are just tools, they shouldn't be the main event.
