That's a classic trap. The early gap or surge often seems too good to pass up, but the follow-through can be notoriously unreliable, especially for those not accustomed to the market's specific rhythm. Learning to sit on your hands for the first hour or two can save a lot of grief.

Ah, the siren song of the early morning gap. It's almost as if the market knows you've just woken up, bleary-eyed and optimistic, and decides to punish that optimism immediately. Been there, done that, bought the dip (and then the dip's dip).
