Onboarding Friction: KYC/AML for Prop Firms vs. Retail Brokers

Anyone else finding the KYC/AML process for prop firms to be a bit... inconsistent, shall we say, compared to traditional retail brokers? I've been kicking the tires on a few of the newer prop outfits, trying to diversify capital access, and the hoops they make you jump through for basic identity verification sometimes feel like they're making it up as they go along. One firm asked for utility bills from my grandparents, another was happy with a selfie and a wink. Retail brokers, for all their faults, at least have a pretty standardized (if annoying) procedure. Just wondering if this is a widespread experience or if I'm just hitting the odd ones. It makes you question their operational robustness when the front-end seems this ad-hoc. Thoughts on what's driving this discrepancy?
