Understanding PYUSD: Stablecoins and Liquidity Risk

When it comes to stablecoins like $PYUSD, currently trading at 0.99974, I think many people might overlook the crucial issue of liquidity risk. Most stablecoins peg their value to fiat currencies like USD at a 1:1 ratio, but that doesn't mean every time we want to redeem, we'll get 100% cash immediately.

The problem arises when there's massive demand for redemption simultaneously, such as during periods of high market volatility or negative news about the issuer. This can temporarily cause the secondary market price to fall below 1 USD, as we've seen before, because the issuer might not have enough liquidity to handle it immediately. Therefore, even though $PYUSD seems stable, understanding this risk is equally important.
