Watching CADJPY Post-BOJ Remarks
The BOJ's comments yesterday, while not overtly dovish, certainly didn't signal any immediate pivot, which was largely expected but still caused some knee-jerk reactions across the board. I'm keeping a close eye on $CADJPY today, currently trading around 115.668. With crude holding relatively firm, and the BOC's stance remaining hawkish compared to the BOJ, the carry play still has legs, though not as clear-cut as it was a few weeks ago. The pair touched 115.75414 earlier today, indicating some upward pressure.
My watchlist for the next few days will be heavily focused on any follow-through from these central bank diverging policies. The risk-off sentiment globally could put a damper on CAD's upside, but the yield differential remains attractive for now. It's not a slam dunk, but the setup is interesting enough to warrant close observation, especially if we see any shifts in broader market risk appetite.
Totally agree. The market seems to be pricing in the "wait and see" approach from the BOJ, but the underlying divergence between BOC and BOJ policy is still the main driver for CADJPY, isn't it? Crude definitely helps keep the bid in CAD.
