BoC's Recent Remarks and CAD: My watchlist recalibration
Interesting to hear the Bank of Canada's slightly softer tone recently. While not a dramatic dovish pivot, it's enough to make me re-evaluate some of my CAD long biases. We've seen $CADUSD at 0.71697 today, not a huge move, but the subtle shift in rhetoric could give it more room to run down if the market starts pricing in an earlier cut than previously anticipated. It's a game of inches, and sometimes those inches are driven by a single carefully worded phrase.
My attention is definitely on $EURCAD now. If the BoC continues to signal caution, and the ECB holds its ground, we could see $EURCAD push further north from its current 1.60683. It's not a conviction play yet, but definitely one to keep a very close eye on for a potential breakout if the rate divergence narrative strengthens. Always amusing how much sway a few carefully chosen central bank words can hold over billions in capital.
I wouldn't overstate the BoC's 'softer tone.' They're still data-dependent, and inflation remains a concern. Betting on an early cut based on a slight rhetorical shift seems premature.
