Understanding Order Types: Market, Limit, and Stop

Hey everyone, diving into something fundamental but often overlooked: order types. A Market Order executes immediately at the best available price, great for urgency but you give up price control. A Limit Order, conversely, sets a specific price you're willing to buy or sell at; it might not fill instantly, like if you're trying to snag $PLTR at 152.00, it only fills if it hits that exact level. Finally, a Stop Order is a crucial risk management tool, becoming a market order once a certain price is triggered, often used to limit potential losses on a position.

It's always the way, isn't it? You set a limit order hoping to catch a dip, and the stock just decides to moon. Then you market buy in a panic, and it crashes.

Market orders are fine for highly liquid, low-spread stocks. Otherwise, you're just asking to get filled at a worse price than you expected. Limit orders are essential for anything else.
