Lesson Learned: Not understanding the impermanent loss in single-sided staking (and why I didn't stick to my own rules).

Was feeling pretty good about my bag of $UNI, still am for the long haul. Saw a few protocols offering what seemed like decent APRs for single-sided staking. My usual rule is to dig into the tokenomics, especially the inflation schedule and what underpins the yield. But FOMO got the better of me; I saw others posting about their returns and thought, 'Why not me?'

I staked a significant portion, didn't fully grasp how the rebalancing worked against my position as $UNI appreciated, and ended up with less UNI than I started with. The dollar value was up, sure, but my asset growth was stunted compared to just holding. It was a painful reminder that a high APR doesn't mean anything if the mechanism eats into your principal asset quantity, and a bigger reminder to stick to my own research process, no matter how shiny the next thing looks. Lesson learned: always, always understand the mechanics before you commit, especially in DeFi where the complexity can hide crucial details.
