Yield farming during the LUNA implosion taught me about liquidity risk

Watching the Anchor Protocol unwind during the $LUNA crash was a sobering lesson in actual liquidity risk, not just theoretical. I'd allocated a decent chunk of stablecoins there for the yield, thinking 'stable' meant 'safe' from the wider crypto volatility. The mistake wasn't necessarily in the protocol itself, but in underestimating the systemic impact a single project's failure could have on related, seemingly independent, parts of the DeFi ecosystem. When the market started seizing up, withdrawing those 'stable'coins became a race against time and network congestion, not to mention the slippage from peg deviations. It highlighted that yield is often compensation for risk you might not fully grasp until it materializes. My error was treating a high, fixed yield as a given, rather than continually re-evaluating the underlying collateral and broader market health. Diversification across different blockchains and non-interlinked protocols is now a much higher priority, alongside a more rigorous look at smart contract and economic model dependencies.

That's a tough lesson to learn firsthand. It really highlights how interconnected the crypto ecosystem can be, and how 'stable' doesn't always translate to 'immune from systemic shock' when underlying mechanisms fail.

The Anchor yield seemed too good to be true, and it was. Plenty of us learned a hard lesson about where those yields actually come from and the cascade effect when the music stops.
