$ETHUSD - DCA vs. timing for current levels

It feels like everyone is pushing DCA for $ETHUSD right now, especially with it holding around 1870. I'm starting to think that patience for a cleaner break or rejection of this 1878 area might be more prudent than just mindlessly buying dips. Am I missing something obvious, or is the DCA mantra becoming a bit of a crutch?
