The siren call of 'just one more trade' and the price it extracts

I wanted to share a lesson I keep learning and, frankly, sometimes relearning the hard way: the insidious trap of overtrading. It’s not always about chasing big moves or FOMO into a rocket; sometimes, it’s just the quiet urge to keep pushing buttons, even when the edge isn't there.

Recently, I had a pretty decent run with $ETH, caught a nice swing, booked profits, and was feeling good. The smart play was to step back, re-evaluate, maybe go for a walk. Instead, I saw a choppy consolidation pattern, convinced myself there was a quick scalp to be had, and entered with a slightly larger size than usual, thinking I was on a roll. Of course, the market decided to print a couple of liquidity grabs in both directions, and before I knew it, I’d given back a significant chunk of my earlier gains. It wasn't a catastrophic loss, but it felt terrible because it was entirely self-inflicted, born out of impatience and a desire to 'do something' rather than 'do nothing'. The real cost wasn't just the P&L; it was the mental drain and the erosion of discipline that followed. It made me realize, again, how crucial it is to recognize when you're no longer reacting to the market, but simply reacting to the urge to trade.
