When I learned not to chase BTC pumps
Looking back at the Q4 2021 run in $BTC, I remember getting absolutely torched trying to catch every leg up. The price was just relentlessly grinding higher, and I kept seeing these breakouts, jumping in, only for it to immediately retrace and stop me out. My mistake wasn't necessarily the direction – the trend was clearly up – but the entry timing and sizing. I was FOMOing into green candles, convinced I'd miss the next big move if I waited for a pullback or consolidation. Ended up giving back a good chunk of profit from earlier in the year. It was a harsh reminder that even in a strong bull market, patience and discipline with entries are paramount. Chasing pumps just eats away at your edge, especially with a volatile asset like Bitcoin.
