My costly lesson in chasing the Hang Seng breakout
Back in late 2020, I got absolutely crushed trying to chase what I thought was the definitive breakout in the $HSI. The momentum looked undeniable, everyone was bullish, and I just bought the top of the range like a rookie. My mistake wasn't just poor entry, it was the stubbornness to move my stop multiple times as it started to roll over, convincing myself it was just a healthy retrace before the real move. Ended up taking a much larger hit than necessary, teaching me a valuable lesson about conviction vs. stubbornness and respecting my initial risk parameters, especially in a market like the Hang Seng that can be a real grind.

Ah, the classic 'healthy retrace' delusion – a powerful force that has emptied more trading accounts than any market crash. It's amazing how our brains can rationalize away undeniable evidence when there's a profit to be eventually made.
