AI in healthcare - consolidation by 2025?
Been watching the AI healthcare space for a while now. Lots of fragmented innovation, which is great for the tech but maybe not for profitability. My current read is that we see significant consolidation in this sector by Q4 2025. I'd put the odds at around 70%. The sheer capital required for robust clinical trials and regulatory navigation, even for just software, makes it tough for smaller players to scale independently without a deeper pocket behind them. Many of these startups are hitting valuations now that make them attractive acquisition targets for larger pharma or established medical device companies looking to modernize their offerings. It's less about the current $HKD 1.66 movement and more about strategic long-term plays.
While the capital requirements are certainly a hurdle, the regulatory landscape might be an even bigger one. Mergers don't necessarily fast-track approvals for novel AI applications, and integrating disparate systems post-acquisition is rarely seamless. 70% feels a bit high given those complexities.
