EWZ - Value Trap or Genuine Opportunity?

asked by u/murphy_lotte · 1d · 3 answers

I'm looking at $EWZ down around $35.81 today, after touching $35.765 earlier. Every fiber of my being screams 'value trap' when I see Brazil's ongoing political circus and commodity dependency. Yet, the contrarian in me keeps wondering if everyone's just overlooking some deep value here. The narrative of 'emerging markets' has been a tired one for years, but at some point, does the discount get too deep to ignore, or are we just watching a slow bleed? I generally prefer to stick to less volatile markets, but I'm genuinely trying to understand the bull case beyond pure 'it's cheap.' Change my mind.

It's a tough call with EWZ. The political instability and commodity price swings definitely make it feel like catching a falling knife, but you're right to question if the market's over-penalizing it. What metrics are you looking at that suggest

I'm curious about the 'deep value' you mention. What specific metrics or factors are you looking at that suggest it might be more than just a value trap, beyond the low price point itself?

It's a tough one with EWZ. The political risk is definitely high, but isn't that often where the deepest value can be found if you're willing to take a long-term view? What metrics are you looking at beyond price that suggest deep value?
