New here, quick question on position sizing for small accounts

Hey everyone, just joined. I'm trying to get a handle on proper position sizing with a smaller account and keep seeing a lot about the 1-2% rule. For those of you who started with less capital, did you stick rigidly to that, or did you find a slightly higher risk percentage (say, 3-5%) was necessary just to get decent enough moves to track, especially on something like $ES futures where commissions can eat a chunk? I'm curious how others approached that learning curve.
