When is it 'safe' to average down on a crypto position?

Been dabbling in crypto for a few months now, mostly $BTC and $ETH, and I'm starting to get the hang of basic risk management. But one thing I'm still struggling with is averaging down. I know the general advice is to not throw good money after bad, but sometimes a dip feels like a genuine opportunity, not just a losing trade getting worse. How do you guys decide when a dip is a good entry to average down, versus just accepting the loss and moving on? Is it a technical thing, or more fundamental?
