New here, curious about scaling into positions

Hey everyone, fairly new to actively trading, mostly been paper trading $SPX options. I've noticed a few people here talk about scaling into positions, and I'm a little confused on the practical application. Is it just averaging down, or is there a more strategic reason to add to a position after the initial entry, beyond just lowering your cost basis? When do you decide to add, and what criteria do you use?

Scaling in isn't just averaging down, though that's a common outcome. It's often about managing risk and adapting to market action after your initial thesis plays out, or doesn't. What's your current entry strategy like?
