Scaling up/down positions during volatility

When a stock I'm in gets volatile, like $MSFT has been recently, I sometimes struggle with adjusting my position size. Do you typically scale in and out based on short-term technicals, or stick to a pre-planned sizing and ride out the choppiness? What's your approach?
