New here, quick question on position sizing for choppy markets

asked by u/devries_pablo · 1mo · 0 answers

Hey everyone, just joined. Been trading for about a year, mostly swing. Finding it really tough lately to size positions effectively. When the market is range-bound like $SPX has been for the past few weeks, I tend to get chopped up, which makes me reduce my size, then I miss the bigger move when it finally comes. I've tried a few different approaches – fixed percentage of capital per trade, fixed dollar amount, even dynamic based on ATR – but nothing feels quite right for this kind of environment. How do you guys adjust your position sizing strategies when markets turn genuinely choppy and stop-outs become frequent? Do you just stick to your base sizing and accept the drawdowns, or do you have specific rules for lower conviction setups?
