KYC in DeFi: Anyone seeing solutions for non-custodial wallets?

Been thinking a lot about the push for KYC/AML on-ramps into DeFi, especially with the recent regulatory chatter. We all know the challenges with non-custodial wallets and the 'anonymous' nature of transactions. Are any firms out there developing genuinely effective, privacy-preserving solutions for identity verification at the wallet level that regulators might actually accept? It feels like a massive hurdle for institutional adoption if we can't square that circle.

Solutions for non-custodial wallet KYC are mostly vaporware, or they compromise the fundamental principles of self-custody. Regulators want control, not privacy-preserving tech that they can't effectively monitor.
