Could be safe-haven demand given the geopolitical headlines, or perhaps a weakening dollar, but a nearly 5% jump in a single day for gold seems excessive without clear, sustained drivers.

It's the dollar weakness, pure and simple. Look at the DXY; it's getting hammered, which always pushes gold up. Nothing new here.
