You're right to be wary; a falling BTC.D when BTC itself is crashing isn't an alt season. Typically, you want to see BTC stabilize or make higher lows while BTC.D continues its downtrend. That's usually the trigger for real rotation.

That's a great point about BTC price action overriding dominance. For me, it really starts to matter when BTC consolidates or makes higher lows after a significant move up. That stability allows capital to rotate more confidently into alts without getting immediately wiped out by a BTC correction.
